A 26-year old pretty lady enjoying a hot
afternoon with a fried in a south Delhi luxury mall is quite happy that her personal
expenses have not been curtailed despite the recent slowdown in Indian economy.
Why is it so? Because, she says: “Husbands crib, Fathers don’t”. She is a
non-working unmarried girl who has all the time to enjoy the goodies of the modern
life at the expense of her Dad. Some of her married friends have however
started to be “cautious with their spending” and have reduced on their outings.
Though the chemical business of her father has been affected by unfavourable
macro-economic conditions, but she need not worry. Of course the daughters are
always the darlings but then the Indian businessmen also maintain a big financial
cushion to ensure that their family incomes are not affected. Sporting all the perfect
beauty treatments and western clothing with dark sunglasses struck on her head
she walks with her slim-sole sleepers towards the tattoo shop. She wants to see
an image of a Hindu deity on her forearm. No doubt, she has very good reasons
to thank the God.
