New Indian Government Likely to Face Fresh Challenges on Borders
Modi's image as a strongman is likely to attract testing from adversaries, experts warn

An Indian border patrol guard was killed and two other soldiers wounded by militants who blew up a landmine and opened fire before crossing over to Pakistan in the disputed and divided region of Kashmir on Sunday, May 18.
Significantly, the latest attack took place as the newly elected right-wing Hindu Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) government was preparing to take power in New Delhi.
Experts are warning of more such incidents.
“Whenever a new government comes in, its resolve, sagacity, wisdom and decision making system gets tested,” Rumel Dahiya, deputy director general of Indian Institute of Defense Studies and Analyses in New Delhi and a retired brigadier in Indian army, told BNN. “There might be certain kinds of deliberate provocations to test it.”
