India Preparing to Deploy Indigenous UAV on Pakistani Border

NEW DELHI, INDIA -- Indian border guards are introducing indigenously built unmanned aerial vehicle [UAV] surveillance drones to manage the boundary with Pakistan.

“BSF (Border Security Force) has tested our UAV and will soon be placing a bulk order,” an engineer working on the Netra v2 UAV project told BNN during the Defexpo India trade show and exposition held in February in New Delhi. The Netra v2 is being developed by India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

DRDO designed the 3-kilogram (6.6 pound) UAV with a range of 2.5 miles and a maximum flight endurance of 40 minutes. Supported by four propellers, it can send real-time stabilized video from its 10x zoom camera that also has pan and tilt control.
